The "Miles For Tuesday" 5 Mile:
We're really excited to announce that Children's Hospital Colorado has been chosen as an official charity partner of The Boulder Marathon. From their web site: "Help conquer pediatric cancer by joining Miles for Tuesday. We run or cycle in memory of Tuesday Whitt, and everyone else that has battled cancer." The Boulder Marathon is proud to work with Children's Hospital Colorado as well as the Miles for Tuesday group (especially Bill Mell and Tuesday's father Charlie Whitt). I've spent much time with Bill and Charlie and can attest to the amazing work they've done with the Miles for Tuesday group. Working together, we can collectively raise much needed funds for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Children's Colorado. The Miles for Tuesday 5 Mile starts at 8:15am sharp on Sunday, October 21st. The Boulder 5 Mile is a race course that is custom tailored to the dirt roads north of the Boulder Reservoir. Whereas the old 10k course forced runners to travel west on (paved) Niwot Road, now the 5 Mile turns around just before our runners/walkers get to Niwot Rd. Therefore the entire 5 Mile course is on the Boulder backroads dirt roads. No pavement! Once participants arrive at the turnaround previous to arriving at Niwot Rd. they'll then proceed back to the Boulder Reservoir and finish in the same place they started. Perfect for rookie and experienced runners alike!
Needless to say, the 5 Mile is a good distance for any 5k or 10k runner. But it's also a good distance for the marathoner or half marathoner that might not be up for the full or half on race day. All participants in the 5 Mile receive the same race items that the marathon and half marathoners receive. We'll also have a special race medal for the Miles for Tuesday 5 Mile runners and walkers. The Miles for Tuesday 5 Mile is going to be a really fun time for all, so don't hesitate to register soon!
